The Bytowne Cinema is one of Ottawa’s beloved independent cinemas, and Capital Projection Services provides the projectionist expertise and supplemental technical help necessary for their special events and daily operations.
Our work encompassed the full spectrum of cinematic technology, from classic film to modern digital and IT infrastructure:
- Analog Preservation (35mm): Services included a comprehensive refurbishment of the two Bauer U2 35mm projectors, which involved oil changes, cleaning all six specialized lenses (Scope, Flat, 1.375), testing aperture plates, and resolving a mechanical issue with a stuck change-over switch. Capital Projection is also scheduled for an on-site assignment on November 16, 2025, to manage the run, make-up, and break-down of 35mm trailers.
- Digital Maintenance & IT Upgrades: We performed essential cleaning and masking/focus alignment for the CP2220 Projector’s Flat and Scope channels. Critically, we established remote capabilities by setting up VNC access to two Bytowne computers and coordinating a Dolby upgrade package to enable VNC access to the DCP-2K4 cinema media block, ensuring operability was tested from a remote location. Capital Projection also handled an urgent emergency call to successfully resolve a stuck blower sensor.
This full range of support ensures the Bytowne can maintain its reputation for presenting cinematic works across all formats.
